What is FRESH?

FRESH, Food Resources and Education for Student Health, is a comprehensive peer nutrition education program created by and for university students. Using multiple strategies designed to increase awareness, improve knowledge, build skills, and influence the campus food environment, FRESH offers experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students to educate their peers about all aspects of food and nutrition.

FRESH began as a class assignment for graduate students in the MScFN program at Brescia University College in 2010. Under the guidance of Dr. Paula Dworatzek and Dr. June Matthews from Brescia, and Anne Zok from Western's Hospitality Services, FRESH was officially launched in the fall of 2012. Currently, FRESH is made up of eight student Executive Members and approximately fifteen student general members who act as Peer Educators. The team works alongside the expertise of our faculty advisor, Dr. Jasna Twynstra, and our Hospitality Services advisor, L. Tegwyn Mosher, RD, to provide credible nutrition education to the students of Western University and its affiliated colleges.
